PRAYER IS THE ANSWER

I used to always tell David "Prayer is the least but most anyone of us can do for someone." Those words never rang truer than in the parenthood seasons we have been in and continue to be in. There were many days when I didn't know if I could make it any minute - the pain, the bewilderment, the loss seemed all to much to bear; and even now looking back on what we have gone through and experienced with the trauma of it all, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, we only made it through by strong faith-filled people praying for us and God to grace us.

I grew up strong in my faith, my prayer walk, and the Bible, but during this season, I found that my mind went blank and I was too often overwhelmed to even think of words to pray. I know God knew our hearts and what we desired which was healing for our children; the burden was heavy, and I knew that we needed help to carry that burden to God and petition His grace and mercy on our behalf.

We have walked and continue to walk in this journey unwavering because of prayers of faith and grace.

What is a Prayer partner?

Frequently in the Bible, there were many times where God brought alongside others to help those in time of need. They helped bear the burden or carry the load when others felt weak. During intense seasons, it can be very easy to feel alone, helpless, and overburdened, but we were never meant to do life alone; and prayer is the gateway to the Father.

In Exodus 17, there is the story of the Israelites winning a battle against the Amalekites who attacked them. Moses, the Israelites leader had been instructed to lift his staff during the battle. And if the staff was raised, the Israelites were winning the battle against their attackers; however, if the staff fell, the Israelites began to lose the battle. Moses couldn't do it all on his own. He probably felt a tremendous responsibility and burden to do so. After all, his people were depending on him. The story later goes on to say that two men, named Aaron and Hur, stood on either side of Moses and lifted Moses' arms so that the the staff never fell and the Israelites won the battle that day.

Two things needed to be understood that day - 1. Moses and holding his staff wasn't some magical way to win the battle that God required. No, God could have orchestrated his entire angelic army to take out the Amalekites and the Israelites or Moses would not have had to do a single thing. What God wanted was Moses trust and obedience. 2. Moses' action of faith and obedience did not negate that he needed support to do so. Aaron and Hur represented a beautiful image of the body of Christ and how we have been created to life one another up during times of testing and trouble. Aaron and Hur did not take on Moses's responsibility to hold the staff, they just ensured that Moses had the lifted support he needed to continue in obedience.

Life in the NICU can often feel very much like a ongoing, never-ending battle, and none of us understand why it's the battle we have to fight and potentially not others. But despite the questions that may ring in our heads and hearts, to get through it minute by minute, day by day, we need spiritual support to keep fighting. We need Aaron and Hur's.

Prayer Partners to families in the NICU are exactly what Aaron and Hur were to Moses. Christ followers who are willing to come alongside and "lift" you up in prayer and encouragement. They are committed to prayerfully walk alongside you in your journey and intentionally and fervently pray for you, your family and your little one.

NICU experiences are very unique and delicate and each Prayer Partner at Effie's Tower has been vetted, recommended, and trained in understanding the NICU journey allowing for prayer to be  specific to areas that could relate to your journey.
